About

The Bamfield Fungus Festival is an annual festival coordinated under the umbrella of the Bamfield Huu-ay-aht Community Forest Society that celebrates the ecological importance and diversity of the mysterious world of fungi. Events take place over 2 days in the remote community of Bamfield, in Huu-ay-aht First Nations territory.

The festival is entirely run by community volunteers, with the generous support of local sponsors. At the heart of the festival are the expert mycologists who generously share their knowledge and enthusiasm year after year, allowing us to offer events that are accessible to all in terms of both cost and educational level. Most events are free or by donation! Please consider showing your support by making a donation at events, buying merchandise, or buying a ticket to the party.

Huu-ay-aht Culture

The Huu-ay-aht First Nation is a self-governing modern treaty Nation whose lands cover the Barclay Sound on Vancouver Island’s west coast, in the Anacla region between Bamfield and Port Alberni. The Nation is a member of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council with close to 750 residents living in and around the area of Bamfield, BC. The traditional language is Nuu-chah-nulth.

While you are visiting Huu-ay-aht Chiefly Territories (Ha-houlthee) and participating in Bamfield Fungus Festival events, particularly mushroom foraging, please be respectful. Gather mindfully, with gratitude to these lands, waters, and resources that continue to be cared for and tended by Huu-ay-aht First Nation Council, Hereditary Chiefs (Ha’wiih) and citizens.  Learn more at: https://huuayaht.org/
